Nathan’s program bio, for press:

Nathan Bird, is a Minneapolis based performer, concert producer, choir director and voice teacher.  He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Northwestern-St. Paul and a Master of Vocal Performance degree from the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. As a singer in choral, musical theater, and opera settings, his performance credits include the International Opera Theater, Cantus, Guthrie Theatre, the Apollo Male Chorus, Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, the Distinguished Concerts International New York, and the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres’ holiday concert series with his annual production of A Three Tenors’ Christmas.

Collaboration and creativity are pillars of Nathan’s career. Early on, this collaboration and creativity was made evident in what started as a grad school-project and what turned into a fully-fledged recording project on the Azica Records label out of Cleveland. On this first professional recording Nathan his reimagined Schumann’s Dicherliebe for double classical guitar accompaniment (Massif Trio). Nathan’s concert productions, “A Summer Night Romance” (2013) and “Above the World So High” (2014) and most recently A Three Tenor’s Spring Concert(2026) continue his legacy of excellent music, and creating a fun, intimate environment that envolopes audiences in an unforgettable experience.

His most notable concert production has been his ” ‘Three Tenors’ Christmas” that’s been on the holiday stage of Chanhassen Dinner Theatre’s Fireside Theatre for more than a decade.

When Nathan isn’t performing or working on the next concert production he enjoys helping his voice students discover better ways of using their voices. The 2025/2026 school found him back teaching the talented students at Armstrong High School and he’s happy to say that his private studio at Maestoso Music Studio in St. Louis Park is growing. If you’re interested in studying voice with Nathan, don’t hesitate to email him! (n.p.bird@gmail.com).

Nathan and his wife, pianist Naomi Bird, collaborate regularly. Naomi, a hospice music therapist has requested Nathan come sing some Italian opera for one of her patients who really appreciated Italian culture and that art form.

Nathan and Naomi were for a time releasing recordings and writings through their subscription SongNotes From the Birds. While the regular recordings and writings have needed to be set aside, they still find ways to perform in their community together.

Roles: In April 2015, Nathan sang as Tenor Soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass at Carnegie Hall with Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY). Another highlight of Nathan’s career was creating the role of Lucentio in the 2010 world premier of Efrain Amaya’s La Bisbetica, (based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew) in Italy. Other notable roles include Obadiah in Elijah (2010), Tamino in Die Zauberflöte (2010), Tenor Soloist in Dubois’ Seven Last Words (2013), Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte (2014), and Thomas in Lamb of God (2014, 2017).  Musical Theatre credits include Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof (2007), Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (2005), and Father in Children of Eden.(2010),

About Us

birds-web-res-6-of-6.jpg

Nathan and Naomi Bird are in their thirties (for a tiny bit longer), but their music and entertainment preferences put them at home with folks who have been around the sun about 50 times more than they have.

Minnesota natives, they transplanted to Colorado for a few years for graduate school and have called Minneapolis home since 2011. Nathan has taught private voice lessons at area high schools, performs locally, directs a church choir, and produces an annual “Three Tenors Christmas” concert at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.  Naomi has been an organist, ballet accompanist, and piano teacher, currently working full time as a hospice music therapist.

The Birds’ nest currently has a flock of four hatchlings ages seven to fifteen.
